Stand-up comic Josh Blue Oct. 21

October 19, 2009

Comedian Josh Blue is set to perform for a crowd of CSU students Wednesday night at the Lory Student Center Theatre.

Nationally-recognized comedian set to perform

Josh Blue is a Colorado native, but his fame is recognized across the country. He first received national attention when he appeared on the fourth season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. When he won the entire competition, his popularity sky rocketed.

ASAP, in partnership with Resources for Disabled Students, is bringing Blue to perform at CSU on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

According to ASAP Comedy Coordinator Melissa Burrows, the committee decided to bring Blue to CSU because he is “an amazing performer” that “never fails to make the audience laugh.”

Defying disabilities

Blue was born with cerebral palsy, a disorder that can affect body movement, posture and coordination. But the comedian hasn’t let this slow him down. In addition to performing stand-up comedy, Blue also plays for the U.S. Paralympic soccer team

Blue is known for breaking preconceived ideas surrounding his disability through his humor. “I realize that people are going to stare so I want to give them something to stare at,” Blue says jokingly on his website.

“Josh Blue is an awesome comedian and he won’t disappoint,” Burrows said.

ASAP partners with Resources for Disabled Students

This event is co-sponsored by ASAP and Resources for Disabled Students. According to Burrows, ASAP saw this partnership as a way to both provide entertainment and promote RDS on campus. There will be a reception before Blue’s performance to help raise awareness about students with disabilities.
