Honoring our heroes October 25

October 18, 2012

Watch the film 'Avengers' in the Lory Student Center Theatre and help us honor law enforcement and fire officials as heroes in our Colorado communities.

Thursday, October 25
6:30-10:30 p.m.
Behavioral Sciences Building
Room 131

Heroes in our communities

This event is in response to several tragedies that have occurred in nearby communities, such as the Aurora shooting, the wild fires and their resulting damage, and the murder of police officer Celena Hollis with the Denver Police Department on June 24, 2012.

Lexie Wissler, a Housing resident assistant initiated and helped organize the event by contacting law enforcement and fire agencies for help in identifying men and women who'd performed heroic actions for their communities.

Over two dozen officials have been invited to come to Colorado State for:

  • A "heroes' dinner"
  • An award presentation
  • A meet and greet after a showing of the film, Avengers

Write a note thanking a hero

On Thursday, October 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., event organizers on the Lory Student Center Plaza will have multiple boxes in which students can place letters they have written to a law enforcement or fire hero or to her/his department. Small thank you cards will also be welcomed.

The boxes or letters and notes will be presented to each department represented at the evening awards ceremony.

Award ceremony and showing of film, Avengers

At 6:30 p.m. in the Behavioral Science Building,  Room 131, an award ceremony will be held for the officers and fire fighters. After the award ceremony, we'll show the film Avengers in the theater.

Meet our officers/firefighters

Students will have the opportunity to meet our heroes and thank them for what they've done.

Students can learn about opportunities for volunteering with emergency services organizations. We will also share a resource list for those who are struggling with or grieving as a result of the tragedies that have occurred in Colorado this year.
