CSU OnlinePlus-early adopters of responsive website design among universities

Septmber 27, 2012

OnlinePlus touts easier navigation, added features, and a responsive design for mobile usage.

Due to a broad audience, ranging from on-the-go, working professionals to busy, full-time students, CSU OnlinePlus has redesigned its website  for a more user-friendly experience. The new website touts easier navigation, added features, and a responsive design for mobile usage.

Driving action

When users come to a university site, they want to be able to find the information they need and achieve their goal as quickly as possible. For CSU OnlinePlus, this meant providing direct access to touch points like receiving email notifications, contacting a student recruiter, or starting an application. These goals were addressed with a clear navigation path and visible cues to draw the user to take action on individual program pages. A set of landing pages that included critical pieces of information, hard-hitting visuals, and directed calls-to-action were also developed. Specific tagging parameters to track important links, interactions, and conversions were also provided, so that now, CSU OnlinePlus can effectively measure and optimize their new design for continual improvement.

Designing responsively

The ultimate goal was to build an experience that would appeal to CSU OnlinePlus’ growing audience and stay ahead of the evolving mobile landscape. CSU OnlinePlus worked with Viget, an interactive agency and software development company, to create each page with the several responsive break points in mind, resulting in a design that enhances progressively from mobile to desktop, maintaining the content and calls-to-action throughout.

A responsive approach not only makes the experience more seamless across devices on the user side, but also helps OnlinePlus manage content more effectively.
