Department of Housing and Dining Services

Joe works for Operations Management in Housing and Dining Services and focuses on building and mechanical repairs and maintenance. He came to CSU 23 years ago hoping to find the time to attend classes in addition to his regular duties, and he did eventually earn a BS degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on Computer Information Systems in 2001.

Joe has put his computer skills to use by putting in countless hours helping Classified Personnel Council develop their website. “Not only has Joe put in several hours of his personal time, he comes up with terrific ideas and keeps everything updated,” Deb says. “Joe has taken a website that barely functioned to one that we are proud to share. CPC has been trying to communicate more effectively with staff on a very limited budget, and having a current website has been a valuable tool for that.“

Vibrant community

Of his experience at CSU, Joe says, “I find CSU to be a vibrant and diverse community, and I really like the University atmosphere. I’ve had the opportunity to meet people from all around the world over the years, which has been very insightful and has certainly broadened my cultural horizons.”

Joe’s view of the University is echoed by Deb. “His attention to detail, knowledge, and commitment to the University are greatly appreciated,” she says.

Joe enjoys riding his bike (especially on local trails), hiking, and mountain activities in general. Photography, exploring, reading, experimenting with different art forms, and technology are additional hobbies.

When asked about being nominated as an Everyday Hero, Joe said, “It definitely has a ‘feel-good’ aspect to it, but I’m just one of many. I think it’s important to find and celebrate the everyday hero in each and every person. This is a nice way to do it.”
