Reception 4-6 p.m. April 28

Linnell has accomplished much here at Colorado State. Before coming to CSU, she received a chemistry degree from Wellesley College and a Master of Arts in science education from Harvard University. She came to Colorado State to earn her Master of Education degree in Health and Exercise Science

Impact locally, globally

An important part of Sheri’s rich past includes 3+ years in the Peace Corps as a science teacher in Korea and Malaysia. Sheri followed this experience with an additional 2 years as a volunteer teacher/supervisor for the East Malaysia Department of Education.

Longtime Adult Fitness director

Linnell is currently in her 27th year as director of the Adult Fitness Program, which provides a valuable service to participants as well as to her students. Linnell mentors practicum students to provide exercise counseling for a wide range of individuals including those undergoing cardiac rehabilitation. She also teaches academic classes in HES instilling valuable life skills and a service oriented attitude in her students. Incredibly, since 1982, Linnell has interacted with more than 2,700 clients through the adult fitness program, and mentored another 2,000 practicum students.

Founded Homecoming 5K race 28 year ago

Additionally, as a graduate student in Health and Exercise Science, Linnell founded the Homecoming 5K race 28 years ago to reach out to the community and promote physical activity in people of all ages; this year’s race had a record number of over 2000 entries. After her retirement, Sheri will be missed tremendously. The Sheri Linnell Scholarship was established by the Department and friends and colleagues of Sheri in her honor in 2006.

Linnell and her husband Tom (a fellow Peace Corps volunteer and clinical psychologist) plan to celebrate retirement spending more time with their children (Aaron and Erica) and, of course, continue their passion for travel and service to the community.
