Frank Devitt Moore III

May 13, 2011

Frank Devitt Moore III, retired CSU professor, passed away May 10 at age 79.

Frank Devitt Moore IIIFrank died by accident while enjoying his favorite hobby: target shooting at the Weld County Fish and Game firing range.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Touba Moore; his son, Douglas Moore of Boston; daughter, Kathryn Campbell of Scottsdale; and grandson, Alex Moore.

Frank was born June 16, 1931, to Frank Devitt Moore Jr. and Edna Noble Moore in Pennsylvania. Frank was their sole child.

Frank completed his undergraduate work at Pennsylvania State, his M.S. at the University of Delaware and Ph.D. at the University of Maryland.

Later, he moved with his family to Fort Collins in 1969 to work for Colorado State University as horticulture professor. For 33 years, he was passionate about his research, grant writing, teaching and most importantly his graduate students.

Frank grew up hunting and trapping. As an adult he liked collecting and shooting antique muzzle loaders, playing tennis, running and he completed two marathons. During his retirement, he enjoyed reading history, target shooting and instruction, volunteer work with the Marine Corps League, teaching tomahawk throwing to high school students, running and lifting weights. Most of all, he dearly loved his family and friends. So many who have known him say he is a special person. He was very proud of his children, a true friend, and caring husband.
