Colorado State University Youth Sport Camps After School Program Registration Still Open

August 9, 2011

The Colorado State University Youth Sport Camps After School Program has limited space still available for the Aug. 22 Poudre School District start.

Anyone wanting their child or children to participate is encouraged to register now.

The program, run by the university’s Department of Health and Exercise Science, is held in the Moby complex after school until 6 p.m., Mondays through Fridays on school days. The program has a teacher to student ratio of 5:1 or less.

Program features physical activity

Based on the philosophy and activities of the popular CSU FunLIFE (Learning to Improve Fitness and Eating) youth camps, the after school program features active and healthy programming focusing on physical activity, fitness development and healthy nutrition.

The program is offered on a very limited-space basis to the families of CSU faculty, staff and students as well as Fort Collins community members. For more effective interaction between staff and children, there is a limit of 15 children per day. Activities include sport activities, yoga, swimming and hiking, and healthy snacks will be provided daily. Homework time and tutoring is also included for those children who need it.

The staff includes graduate and undergraduate students in Health and Exercise Science who have been selected for their knowledge, appreciation for healthy lifestyles and love of working with children.

The instructors apply excellent teaching and coaching principles that emphasize fun, success and a healthy approach to lifetime activity for each child.

Transporation from some schools available

Transportation is provided from Dunn, Bennett, Bauder and O’Dea elementary schools. Others are encouraged to join, but must provide their own transportation. CSU parents with children at other schools can pick up their children from school and drop them off at the program site.

Program cost is offered in three pricing options:

•$12.50 per day for the first child
•$10 per day for each additional child in the same family

•Alternatively, a weekly option is available for $45 per child

Spaces are limited, so be sure to register soon. Contact the Youth Sport Camps/After School Program office at (970) 491-6318 or for more information.

The Department of Health and Exercise Science is part of the College of Applied Human Sciences.
