New twists on traditional Homecoming events Oct. 9

October 1, 2009

Colorado State University's Homecoming and Family Weekend events will kick off earlier this year, with music, food, and games starting at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 9. The celebration takes place on the west lawn of the Lory Student Center.

Music begins 1:30 p.m. Friday

ASAP, CSU’s student programming board, will present a first-ever homecoming music festival featuring regional bands, The Heyday, at 1:30 p.m., and Meese at 3:15 p.m.

Food for purchase

Also new this year, food will be available for purchase – cash only – from a variety of local vendors including:

  • Mountain Fair Kettle Corn
  • Souza’s Smokin BBQ
  • Cheba Hut
  • Pizza Casbah
  • C.B. & Potts
  • Hog Wild BBQ
  • Woody’s Wood-Fired Tavern
  • Snowball Delight

Food sales begin at 1:30 and will remain open for cash sales until 8 p.m.

Parade begins at 4:30 p.m.

The celebration will continue with the 2009 Homecoming Parade, which will begin downtown at 4:30 p.m. and end its route on campus at University Avenue and Meridian.

Family-friendly evening festival

The traditional Homecoming Festival will follow at 6 p.m., where attendees will enjoy a family-friendly atmosphere with inflatable games and CSU spirit.

A performance by Two Bits a Gander, the 2008 CSU OriginIdol winner, will begin the evening’s musical fare and the final round of CSU Idol will precede the traditional pep rally featuring CSU head football coach Steve Fairchild, Ram football players and the CSU marching band.

The celebration will culminate with the annual Homecoming bonfire, lighting of the “A” and a fireworks display.
