Ram Good Time Auction raises big bucks

March 2, 2012

The 31st Ram Good Time Auction helped raise more than $230,000 for student-athlete scholarships at CSU.

The event, which features live and silent auctions of hundreds of donated items, was held Saturday night at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Loveland. More than 700 guests attended the annual gala, which has raised more than $6 million for scholarships since its inception in 1981.

CSU alumnus Jim Benemann, news anchor for Denver’s CBS4, served as the emcee, while CSU athletic director Jack Graham, and football coach Jim McElwain made special appearances.

Miles inspires crowd

The evening's loudest cheers were reserved for men's basketball coach Tim Miles, whose Rams beat Air Force earlier in the day to earn the No. 4 seed in the Mountain West Conference Tournament and move a step closer to securing a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

The Ram Good Time Auction is the largest single fundraiser for CSU athletics. Proceeds help offset the cost of scholarships for CSU’s 300-plus student-athletes.

This year's auction, attended by 775 people, raised more than $21,000 than the 2011 auction, which had 707 attendees.
