CSU basketball teams bound for MWC Tournament

The CSU women open play Tuesday while the men play Thursday in the MWC Tournament at the Thomas & Mack Center. Champions will be crowed Saturday.

Senior forward Andy Ogide, one of the top players in the league, will lead the Rams into the MWC Tournament.The CSU men’s and women’s basketball teams head to Las Vegas this week in search of Mountain West Conference Tournament titles and postseason berths.

The five-day tournament will be played Tuesday through Saturday at UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center. Championship games will be played Saturday, with winners earning automatic berths in the NCAA Tournament.

Women face Air Force

The CSU women’s team, which closed its regular season Saturday at home with a 66-51 win over San Diego State, enters as the No. 4 seed in the nine-team tournament and plays No. 9 seed Air Force at 3 p.m. (MST) Tuesday. The Rams swept their two games with the Falcons this season.

If the Rams, led by junior forward Kim Mestdagh, win they will play the winner of the Utah-UNLV game at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Men take on New Mexico

The CSU men’s team, which finished the regular season Saturday with a 66-48 loss at No. 9 San Diego State, is the No. 4 seed and plays No. 5 New Mexico at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals. The Rams and Lobos split their season series, with each team winning on its home court.

If the Rams, led by senior forward Andy Ogide, win that game they play at 7 p.m. Friday, with BYU their likely opponent.

All men’s games and all women’s games played Wednesday through Saturday will be televised, with The Mtn., CBS College Sports and Versus providing coverage.
