CSU students present "Destinations"

February 12, 2013

Get your passports ready: This year the CSU apparel and design show will take you on a global journey of fashion.

A student-created design to be featured at this year's show.Produced by the Department of Design and Merchandising, the show is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 8, at the Lincoln Center, 417 W. Magnolia St.

Original works from seniors

"Destinations” will showcase the original works of 23 senior designers, divided into four categories: “Urban Edge,” “Extreme Altitudes,” “Mystic Woodlands,” and “European Elegance.” From sleek active wear to intricate gowns, the talent of these designers, inspired by travel destinations, is sure to spark ideas for your next vacation.

"I think the design work this year is better than it has ever been,” said Diane Sparks, professor and coordinator of CSU’s Apparel and Merchandising Program. “The students are the most creative students we’ve ever had in the program. The design work itself is complex and interesting, and beautifully done.”

“I feel honored to share the stage of this year’s fashion show with a group of incredibly talented designers. It was an amazing experience to design and create my senior collection and I am very excited to present my evening wear line on March 8,” said CSU senior and student designer Annabella Montgomery.

Garments made from recycled materials

For the second year, garments made from recycled military parachutes will be featured on the runway. The parachutes are donated by nonprofit organization Aspen Pointe and CSU students use them to design one-of-a-kind pieces. Last year students repurposed parachute fabric into wedding dresses, cocktail dresses and jackets.

Tickets for the one-night-only event are $10 per student and $20 per adult. Seating is general admission for student tickets and reserved for $20. VIP tickets are $65 per person, which includes a pre-show dinner at 5 p.m. and a reserved seat at the show. Tickets are available online at and in person at the Lincoln Center box office.

Spotlight on design, merchandising

In collaboration with the evening’s event, the Department of Design and Merchandising will hold a “Spotlight on Design and Merchandising Day” March 8. One hundred high school students will have the opportunity to learn more about the apparel and merchandising and interior design majors, students and faculty at Colorado State. The day, which begins at 12:30 p.m. and ends around 9 p.m., includes a variety of activities, a student panel, and a campus tour.

The cost for the full afternoon of activities and the CSU Fashion Show night is $20 per person.

The Department of Design and Merchandising is part of the College of Health and Human Sciences.
