Annual Women's Conference March 27

The 5th Annual Women's Conference at Colorado State University on Saturday, March 27 will include hands-on workshops and a performance and poetry workshop by spoken word artist Gabriela Garcia Medina.

The Colorado State University Office of Women’s Programs and Studies will present the annual Women’s Conference on Saturday March 27, 2010 in the Lory Student Center.

The event includes hands on workshops and a performance and poetry workshop by spoken word artist Gabriela Garcia Medina.

'Strengthening our Roots, Growing Together'

The theme of this year’s conference is “Strengthening Our Roots and Growing Together.” The event is designed to bring faculty, staff, and students together to learn and share with each other.

Keynote speaker, Gabriela Garcia Medina

The keynote event will be a performance by Gabriela Garcia Medina, along with a poetry workshop. Medina is an international spoken word artist and award-winning poet. Her poetry deals with social issues, including those facing women and specifically women of color.

In addition to performing, Medina does workshops empowering women and young people and encouraging social change. She works with other artists using mediums such as spoken word, hip-hop, and poetry to invite social change and talk about social issues.

Workshops on relative, real topics

The conference will include workshops such a:

  • "Sex Positivity: Taking the Boo Out Of Taboo"
  • "Intro to Women in Religion”
  • "Out of College! Now What?”

There will also be an open microphone, where conference attendees can share their own voice through poetry, song, or simple spoken word.


The deadline for early registration is March 12, with a registration fee of $10. The final deadline for registration is March 22, with a fee of $15. The registration fee covers lunch for the day as well as attendance to all events.
