Working at CSU

Mason accepts provost position at Kansas State U.

November 18, 2009

April Mason, dean of the College of Applied Human Sciences, has just accepted the position of provost and senior vice president at Kansas State University.

CAHS dean starts new job at KSU in early 2010

Please join me in congratulating April Mason, dean of the College of Applied Human Sciences, who has just accepted the position of Provost and Senior Vice President at Kansas State University. April, who has been at Colorado State since 2004, will start at her new post in late January or early February.

In her five-plus years here, April has been a great spokesperson and advocate for the College, a wonderful contributor to the University overall, and a pleasure to work with – and we will all miss her horribly.

As dean of the College of Applied Human Sciences, April oversaw six departments and two schools. Before becoming dean, she was an associate dean for Extension and an associate dean for Discovery and Engagement in the former College of Consumer and Family Sciences.

Ph.D. in foods and nutrition

Mason attended the Overseas School of Rome in Rome, Italy, before receiving her bachelor’s degree in biology from Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio. She has a master’s degree in plant physiology and a Ph.D. in foods and nutrition from Purdue University. Her area of research was in trace mineral availability from foods. She taught in the Extension program in Purdue for 20 years before joining the staff at CSU.

Mason is currently the chair of the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities’ board of human sciences.

Transition plan being finalized

Details of a transition plan are being finalized and will be made public as soon as they are known. We wish her the very best as she takes on her exciting new responsibilities at Kansas State.
