Happy campers July 9-13

June 26, 2012

The Environmental Learning Center's summer day camps are in full swing. Our programs keep kids laughing, moving, and most importantly, learning!

Pitching a tent, cooking in the wild, and camping without leaving a trace of your presence -- are all skills you'll learn in the summer day camp, 'Happy Campers,' at the Environmental Learning Center.July 9-13

Put your skills into practice

Always wanted to go hiking or camping but didn’t know what to bring or how to be prepared? All your questions will be answered in this week-long outdoor skills camp! The camp is for ages seven-plus.

We'll discuss:

  • the "Leave No Trace" ethic,
  • how to cook in the wild, and
  • how to pitch a tent.

This week will include an optional overnight camping experience on the ELC grounds for those who want to put their skills into practice. By the end of the week, you’ll know how to be a happy camper.

Summer camp programs take place at our East Drake site and run 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday-Friday. Summer camps are:

  • $125 for current ELC members
  • $155 for non-members if registered by March 31
  • After March 31, the price increases to $140 for members and $170 for non-members.

To register for any of our summer day camps, please visit our website.

How to get here

Directions to Drake site: Head east on Drake Road. Approximately one mile after passing the intersection at Timberline, turn left on Environmental Drive. The road will cross a one-lane bridge and turn sharply to the south. Before making the sharp turn south, take a sharp left on the gravel road (you will see the ELC sign), crossing the railroad tracks. Programs meet in the parking lot.
