Equine Hospital welcomes first senior student from The Royal Dick School of Veterinary Studies

July 24, 2009

Clare Owen, from the RDSVS in Edinburgh, Scotland, has finished her four week exchange program with the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

Dr. Sherry Stewart, assistant dean for Admissions and Student Affairs, facilitated this sister school program where veterinary students can exchange between CSU and RDVS at different intervals so they may have a global look into veterinary medicine.

“The day started with a busy schedule in the Equine Surgery and Lameness service, and at first I felt overwhelmed,” Clare said. “However, one day later, with the help of my fabulous student rotation group, a brilliant nursing staff, my clinicians Drs. Bellezzo and Amend, I had a patient through surgery, found my way to the pharmacy, and had mastered most of the paperwork! I had the most amazing experience at the CSU-VTH. Thank you to everyone I met for making this exchange such an incredible experience.”

CVMBS and RDSVS both support world-renowned veterinary programs, have very similar research interests including infectious diseases, equine orthopedics, neuroscience, oncology and animal reproduction, and both share international reputations for excellence in basic and applied biomedical research in these and other areas of research. The program includes veterinary student exchanges in clinical rotations, student externships, vacation project exchanges and the Merck Summer Research program.
