Latino higher ed gap huge in Colo.

Colorado has the largest "ethnic achievement" gap in the nation, as there are far more whites than Hispanics earning college degrees. Hispanics are the fastest growing demographic in the state, but only 6 percent have an associate's degree and 8 percent have a bachelor's degree, according to a draft of Colorado's Strategic Plan for Higher Education.

The educational attainment rate of whites who have an associate's degree or higher compared to the next largest ethnic group -- in Colorado's case, Hispanics -- differs more in Colorado than in any other state. Colorado has a 39 percentage-point gap, compared to the national average of 19.3.
