CSU System discusses five-year strategic plan draft with stakeholders

April 14, 2010

Encouraging collaboration, seeking financial stability for Colorado State University and Colorado's higher education system, expanding CSU's presence throughout Colorado, and sharing a common set of values, are all the primary underpinnings of the CSU System's proposed strategic plan.

Update on Tuesday's forum

Chancellor Joe Blake joined President Tony Frank on campus Tuesday to discuss the proposed CSU System 2010-2015 strategic plan and its confluence of the CSU strategic plan.

The CSU System’s strategic plan consists of four goals:

  • Goal one: Increase student success and satisfaction
  • Goal two: Establish financial stability
  • Goal three: Expand statewide service
  • Goal four: Provide opportunities for building a stronger Colorado

System office to support and enhance campus

“The System office’s function is to be there to support and enhance – to provide every resource we can – to support the campuses,” Blake said.

President Frank presented metrics and actions taken from CSU’s strategic plan that augmented the goals of the CSU System, such as using Extension offices throughout the state to expand access to CSU’s Division of Continuing Education courses, working with community colleges to increase transfer enrollment into CSU, and increasing the number of applied research activities to help achieve a the larger CSU System goal of promoting consistent economic growth statewide.

Shared set of values

“A common set of values is terribly important,” Blake said. “You cannot get alignment toward achieving a goal without a shared set of values.”

The open campus meeting Tuesday was part of the chancellor’s effort to meet with each campus of the CSU System, including CSU-Pueblo and CSU-Global Campus, to explain the broader aims of the CSU System. Blake will present the draft System plan to the plan to the Board of Governors of the System at the Board’s May meeting in Fort Collins.
