Veterinary Teaching Hospital open house

What constitutes an emergency for your pet? Are there certain basics about pet first aid that you should know? What does it take to get into vet school and what can you expect on your chosen career path? Get these questions and others answered at the 33rd annual Veterinary Teaching Hospital open house.

The ABC's of animal health: Always the Best Care

At the 33rd annual VTH open house, an exotics expert, Dr. Matt Johnson, will share tales that come from years of working with birds, lizards, fish, and more exotic animals.

The 2012 Veterinary Teaching Hospital Open House, "The ABC's of Animal Health: Always the Best Care," will be held on Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31.

The open house is a yearly event coordinated and run by students in the Professional Veterinary Medical Program. Open house events include:

  • lectures
  • demonstrations
  • tours through the hospital
  • over 15 displays

Friday, March 30

  • 6-7 p.m. - Special presentation, "Is this an emergency for my pet?"
  • 7-7:30 p.m. - Intermission with refreshments
  • 7:30-8:30 p.m. - Pet first aid workshop

Saturday, March 31

  • 9:30-10:30 a.m. - 'Weird, Wild and Wacky' - Zoological Medicine at CSU
  • 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. - Equine first aid lecture and workshop
  • 1:30-2:30 p.m. - 'So You Want to be a Veterinarian'
  • 12:30-2:30 p.m. - Fort Collins Police Canine Unit Training demonstration
  • 2:30-3:30 p.m. - CAT scans for your dog

Petting zoo

A petting zoo for the kids will be open Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The kids will love petting all the furry creatures and learning more about animals at the same time.

Hospital tours

On Saturday, hospital tours will start at 9 a.m. and leave from main lobby every 15 minutes. The last tour will begin at 3 p.m. Large groups are encouraged to make a reservation by calling (970) 297-1269.

All open house events are free and open to the public.
