The Rescue of Joseph Kony's Child Soldiers

March 24, 2009

A must watch documentary.

The film

The Rescue of Joseph Kony's Child Soldiers documentary profiles rebel leader Joseph Kony and the untold story of the abducted child soldiers.

Joseph Kony

Joseph Kony is the world's first individual indicted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.

Despite a ceasefire called between the LRA (Lord's Resistance Army) and the Ugandan government, efforts toward peace were stalled on several occasions by Kony's refusal to sign the final peace agreement.

In late 2008, the Ugandan government and surrounding countries launched a military operation intended to defeat the LRA and capture the rebel leader. The LRA retaliated by attacking thousands of civilians, while abducting hundreds of children to fight amongst its ranks. These incidents resulted in the displacement of over 100,000 and murder of over 500 across the Democratic Republic of Congo and surrounding areas.

The documentary will be shown on April 2, 2009 at 7 p.m. in Clark A 101. The Roadies from Invisible Children will be guest speaking.
