The 411 on Graduation

May 11, 2009

It's that time of year. Students are anxiously finishing up the last of their papers and tests while looking forward to summer. But for some of the students, this time of year will have a different meaning: graduation.

If you're one of those about to put on the cap and gown and march to "Pomp and Circumstance," listen up. Here's what you need to know to get you through the days leading up to graduation.

Cap and Gown rentals

Caps and gowns can be picked up in the Lory Student Center, Room 220-222 and 224-226, May 12-14, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. As a last resort, you can rent your regalia one hour prior to the ceremony at the same place. Please note that cash is required.

Immediately following the ceremony, return your robe to the Moby Arena Intramural Gym or to Lory Student Center Room 228, depending o the site of your ceremony. You can keep your cap and tassel.

Late charges will be incurred for late returns. Late-return items are sent directly to Unique Recognition, 333 East 4th Street, Suite 102, Loveland, CO 80537.

Rental Costs:

  • Bachelor's cap, gown, and tassel $18.75
  • Additional tassels $6.25

Attire Tips

Tassels are worn on the left side. Mortarboard caps should be worn level and not on the back of your head. Please do not decorate your regalia.

Diplomas will be mailed after the ceremony

You will receive a diploma cover during the ceremony; your actual diploma will be mailed to you approximately six weeks after commencement. If you cannot attend the ceremony, you may pick up a diploma cover from the Provost's Office. Your diploma cover may also be mailed to you for a $3 (U.S. mailing) postage fee. Call (970) 491-6614.

Tickets and seating for guests

Tickets are not required for admission. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Areas will be set up to accommodate anyone with a special need.

Parking for the event

Parking at the Lory Student Center – The Lory Student Center is located centrally on the main campus, and there will be free public parking in the pay-by-space numbered stalls in the parking lot north of the Lory Student Center on Friday and Saturday. There should be sufficient time between ceremonies to minimize parking congestion.

Parking at Moby Arena – Since Friday, May 15, is the last day of final exams and a typical workday, regular "A"-permit parking zones (Faculty and Staff zones) will be enforced until 4 p.m. on the main campus and in the Moby Arena Lot. Visitors can park in the "Z" zoned portion of the lot west of Moby Arena, as well as any other "Z" lots on campus. No parking permitted in the 20-minute Loading Zones, except for loading and unloading, red/fire zones, and No Parking/Undesignated Areas (All vehicles must park in a clearly marked stall). There should be sufficient time between ceremonies to minimize parking congestion, but support staff will be present to direct traffic as necessary.

A PDF map of campus parking can be downloaded from the CSU Parking website (best viewable in Internet Explorer). Additional parking information is available by calling the CSU Police Department – Parking Division at (970) 491-7041.
