Colorado State celebrates Gateway to Asia April 3-4

April 1, 2009

The fourth annual Gateway to Asia celebration, which promotes cultural connections and interest in Asian culture, will take place April 3-4 at Colorado State University. All events are free and open to the public.

Festive contests, dance, demos

On Friday, April 3, a Japanese Bon-Dance and Chinese Dragon dance will begin at 11 a.m. on the Lory Student Center Plaza and a Chinese/Japanese karaoke contest will start at 8 p.m. in the Lory Student Center Ramskeller.

On Saturday, April 4, activities include calligraphy and brush painting workshops, Japanese Tea ceremonies and opportunities to have your name written in Chinese and Japanese as well as try on authentic cultural attire and learn origami. Also scheduled are an acupressure lesson, a Japanese rock music and dance performance, a traditional Chinese dance and a Kung-Fu demonstration.

The event is organized by the Chinese Club, Colorado American and Chinese Professional Association, Japan club, Japanese Student Association and Taiwanese Community Association.
