September 22, 2011

On September 29, the Wind Ensemble, a select group of about 60 members, and the Symphonic Band, comprised of about 80 musicians, will perform a fall concert together, featuring contemporary composer Ryan George and 19th century French composer Jacques Offenbach.

The Wind Ensemble will perform, 'Hymn for the Lost and the Living.' Thursday, September 29
7:30-9 p.m.
Griffin Concert Hall
University Center for the Arts

The Wind Ensemble, conducted by Christopher Nicholas, has prepared an eclectic program featuring innovative new works including Ryan Geoge’s Firefly, and a heartfelt tribute to mark the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy.

Hymn for the Lost and the Living by Eric Ewazen “is intended to be a memorial for those lost souls, gone from this life, but who are forever treasured in our memories,” said the composer.

The Symphonic Band, conducted by new director Richard Frey, plays Jacques Offenbach’s overture to La belle Hélène and Vincent Persichetti’s Pageant.
