Ronald A. Wykstra, 74, retired economics professor, died Nov. 10, 2009

Ronald A. Wykstra, 74, of Nokomis, Fla., died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009.

Started at CSU in 1967

Ronald was born on March 20, 1935 in Plainwell, Mich., and was the oldest child of Arnold and Dena (Kwek-keboom) Wykstra of Parchment. Ronald graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1953, and attended Western Michigan University. 

Ronald later attained his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Nebraska. In 1967, he settled in Fort Collins, where he taught economics as a tenured professor at Colorado State University.

International economic adviser, author

During his career as an economist he authored several books, was a senior economic advisor to the United Nations in American Samoa, worked on an economic development project for CSU in Lesotho, Africa and taught at various U.S. Military bases throughout Europe for the University of Maryland and Boston University. In 1985, he re-located to Nokomis, Fla.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Inge (Lohmer) Wykstra of Nokomis, Fla. and three children; Patricia J. Thompson of Fort Collins, Thomas E. Wykstra of Thornton, Colo., and Andrew S. Wykstra of Flagstaff, Ariz. He is also survived by his sister, Juliene (John) Harman of Sarasota, Fla., 11 grand children, and 2 great grand children.
