CSU System Board of Governors recognizes Pritchett

James Pritchett, professor of Agricultural and Resource EconomicsJames Pritchett, professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics, known for his motivational teaching style and ability to inspire students to learn challenging material, has been honored by the Board of Governors of the Colorado State University System with the annual Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award.

Inspiring students

“Quality instruction of undergraduates is among the most important missions of the University and we are fortunate to have the Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching to recognize faculty members who are outstanding in this area,” said Miranda. “Dr. Pritchett’s teaching style inspires students to dive into challenging material and use that instruction toward addressing global challenges.”

Pritchett is both a talented teacher and mentorof students. Pritchett is lauded by current students and alumni for his ability to teach complex information and apply it to solving global problems.

Admired and respected

“James teaches some of the most academically challenging classes in our program, but his ability to connect with and motivate students to work hard really sets him apart as a teacher,” said Greg Perry, chair of the Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics. “His talent for mentoring isn’t limited to students. Young faculty seek out his counsel as they try to improve themselves as classroom teachers. He is admired and respected by his peers across the university.”

In 2009, Pritchett led the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics to be thefirst program in thecountryto offeradistancedegree program in agricultural business management.He helpedadvise thefirst students, identifiedclassestobedeveloped online and developed innovativeways to translatetraditional teachingmethods into distanceeducation.
