Free pancakes, Rams football set for Saturday

Year Two of the Bold New Era for Jim McElwain and the CSU football program begins with a sneak preview of the 2013 season when the Rams hit the field at noon Saturday for the annual spring game at Hughes Stadium.

Rams coach Jim McElwain is ready for his second spring game.McElwain, who led the Rams to a 4-8 record in his first season, is hoping the Rams can show significant improvement this fall. He has been pleased with the team’s progress during the 15-practice spring.

Position battles

Fans will get to watch the ongoing battle between Garrett Grayson, Conner Smith and Craig Leonard for the starting quarterback’s job. Grayson and Smith both started and won games last year, while Leonard, a freshman from Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins, is making a strong push for playing time.

The Rams also have interesting competition for playing time at running back, receiver, linebacker and in the secondary.

Free pancakes!

Admission is free, and concessions stands will be open. Fans can also take advantage of the annual free pancake breakfast, which begins at 10 a.m. on the west concourse.

Plans to open Ram Town and offer inflatables and other games to young fans were cancelled due to snow. CAM the Ram, cheerleaders and the CSU band will be on hand.

Come join the fun

Athletic department officials will be on hand to sign up fans to buy season tickets and/or join Ram Club, the school’s booster group. Ram Club members are invited to watch the game in the Rams Horn suite on the stadium's west side.
