U.S. Postal Service announces rate increase effective Jan. 22, 2012

The U.S. Postal Service has announced new postage rates for first-class mail effective Jan. 22, 2012.

Rate adjustment highlights
  • Letters up to 1 oz. will increase by $.01 increasing to $.45 cents. This is the first increase in the price of a First-Class Mail stamp since May 2009.
  • Additional weight on letters will remain unchanged at $.20 per each additional oz.
  • Postcards – $.03 increase to $.32
  • Letters to Canada or Mexico (1 oz.) – $.05 increase to $.85
  • Letters to other international destinations – $.07 increase to $1.05
  • The price increase for Standard Mail Letters is slightly below the overall average at less than 1.9%
