Energy conservation for the holidays

December 13, 2012

Be a face of conservation and save energy and resources this holiday season. Holiday breaks are a great time to power down technology.

As you leave the office for the holidays, take a look around and turn off any and all equipment that will not be in use once you leave – give IT a break.

What you can do

Please keep these tips in mind to save energy every day:

  • Power IT down (it is OK to turn off your computer each night, unless your research project or department specifies otherwise)
  • Turn off your monitor (use the little button, and turn it all the way off)
  • Turn off your personal desktop printer
  • Turn off the lights
  • Turn off any other little device: radio, calculator, speakers, etc.
  • Save energy in your lab
    • Shut the sash – lower the fume hood sash to its minimum level
    • Turn off and unplug all lab equipment that will not be in use
  • Remember: If it’s not in use, turn off the juice!

This holiday season, give the gift of energy conservation to CSU, and please keep these tips in mind to save energy every day – every watt counts.

"Thanks a 'watt!'"
