Pine Ridge Holiday Gift Project needs donors

November 29, 2010

The CSU community is invited to contribute a holiday gift for a child or elder again this year.

Give a gift!

The Pine Ridge Holiday Gift Project is underway again this year! As you may be aware, the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is one of the most impoverished and marginalized regions in the United States.

While every effort is made to address the underlying causes of poverty on Pine Ridge, we also recognize the importance of building connections between people on and off the reservation.

CSU community members continue to work on the reservation throughout the year with Service Learning Projects, a winter coat drive, and coordinating the Holiday Gift Project.

Response from all over

Last year, thanks to the generosity of CSU students, friends, family, and hundreds of donors the Holiday Gift Project provided gifts to more than 500 children and elders on the reservation! Donors forwarded the invitation to participate to their friends, families and colleagues and we received responses from all over the U.S. as well as Germany, Australia, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, France, Japan, and Canada!

If you are interested in participating, contact one of the program coordinators, Christine Bartholomew or Julie Sullivan and they will assign you a child or elder along with one or two "wishes." You simply purchase the gift, wrap it, and mail it directly to the child or elder. Gifts usually range in price from $10 - $25 plus shipping. The gifts need to be sent in time for a December 18 arrival date.

More information is available on the Pine Ridge Holiday project page on Facebook.

Thank you for your generosity!
