The Department of Design and Merchandising, in conjunction with the student members of Fashion Group International of Denver, announces the opening of the exhibit, Eco-Couture: FGI Recycled Fashion 2012.

Featured garments made of recycled items Exhibit open for viewing

Located in the Gustafson Gallery in the Gifford Building, Room 318, the exhibit will run from Jan. 20 through March 31. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. An opening reception for the exhibit is scheduled at 4 p.m. on Fri., Jan. 27.

The exhibit features 25 original apparel designs created by student members of FGI as well as other students in the Department of Design and Merchandising within the College of Applied Human Sciences.

Created from recycled materials

All student designs were constructed using approximately 75 percent recyclable materials, including plastic bags, soda can tabs, coffee filters, rubber bands, newspapers and other everyday objects. The designs featured in the exhibit were originally presented at the annual recycled fashion show sponsored by FGI, which was held in December 2011. The top 25 designs from that show were selected for inclusion in the exhibit.
