Global Connections

Vote early, often for Global Village video!

April 27, 2013

A video describing life in the Global Village Learning Community has been chosen as one of the top five videos celebrating international education in the United States, and CSU is counting on its supporters to help win the competition.

CSU's Global Village blends international and domestic students in an academic community that encourages cultural interaction. The winner will be chosen in an online vote sponsored by NAFSA – Association of International Educators. Voting continues until 9:59 p.m. MDT Monday, May 6, and you can just vote once per computer, tablet or mobile device.

“This is wonderful news for Colorado State University and Global Village,” said Jim Cooney, vice provost for International Affairs. “NAFSA reports that the awards committee was overwhelmed by the depth and breadth of more than 70 entries for the contest, and CSU is proud to be one of the five finalists. CSU has made Global Village one of the most attractive residence life models in the country for bringing together international and U.S. students, and this video showcases how successful we have been.”

The video was sponsored by CSU and INTO CSU.

Unique opportunity for students

Global Village Residential Learning Community encourages an engaged, supportive and integrated community of international and domestic students. The community aims to foster lifelong friendships by providing students with experiences to explore the world through ideas, courses, cultures, programs and activities.

All students in Global Village live, attend classes, study, and participate in events and activities together. They learn and appreciate each other’s cultures through conversations and activities about the different cultures.

"We are delighted to see Global Village being appreciated as a community that engages students to explore intercultural understanding and leadership involvement on campus," said Lory-Ann Varela, assistant director of Global Village. "In the past seven years, I have watched students develop lifelong friendships."

Winner announced in May

Contest winner will be announced at the 2013 NAFSA Annual Conference and Expo, set for May 26-31 in St. Louis. CSU is expected have several representatives at the annual event.
