Africa Week, March 30-April 4

A festive parade and live musical performances kick-off Africa Week at Colorado State. Learn more about the diverse, rich culture of Africa, and join the fun. All events are free and open to the public.


Monday, March 30

Parade, noon-2 p.m., Lory Student Center Plaza

Watch, join, and celebrate the festive beginning of Africa Week as CSU's own Africans United student group performs on the Plaza with traditional gowns and live African music!

Opening Ceremony, 6-8 p.m., Lory Student Center Rm. 215

Drop in on Africa Week's special opening ceremony.

Tuesday, March 31
Africans United Poetry, 6 p.m., Lory Student Center Ramskeller

Join Africans United and talented CSU students for an invigorating night of slam poetry. Prizes will be given to all who participate, and a grand prize will be given for the best performance.  Refreshments will also be provided.

Wednesday, April 1
Emanuel's Gift, 6 p.m., Lory Student Center Commons

Africans United will be showing the movie Emanuel's Gift, directed by Lisa Lax and Nancy Stern. The film tells the story of a disabled man born in Ghana who is doing incredible things to change perceptions of the disabled in his country.

Thursday, April 2
Art Museum Africa Exhibition Opening, 11 a.m., University Art Museum 

African art from Colorado State University collections will be exhibited Thursday, April 2 through Friday, Sept. 25 at the University Art Museum, University Center for the Arts.

Composed of stellar objects from our collection, this exhibition features pieces that illustrate the rich artistic traditions of Africa. Examples of jewelry, textiles, and sculpture, generously donated by the Carlen, DeVore and Udall families, will be featured in the museum’s central gallery.

Join Africans United for game night. Be a part of these very entertaining and informational African games.

Saturday, April 4
5th annual Africa Night, 5 p.m. Lory Student Center Theatre

Come celebrate the 5th annual Africa Night! The night is all free so bring friends and family. You don't want to miss it.

The night includes:

  • The Taste of Africa
  • A wonderful mix of African foods prepared fresh in the Lory Student Center Food Court
  • Fashion show

As your enjoy the food, feast your eyes on the diverse African attires, 6 p.m. in the Lory Student Center Food Court.  Enjoy a theatrical performance and African dance 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Lory Student Center, followed by a hot after-party.
