CSU homepage, other sites to be unavailable Aug. 5-6

August 3, 2009

Academic Computing and Networking Services, or ACNS, is planning to perform needed maintenance and reconfiguration of systems between Wednesday, Aug. 5 and Thursday, Aug. 6, to improve system performance and availability.

Late night outage for 3 hours

The three-hour outage window begins at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5, and concludes by 1 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6.

This operation will require some central systems to be offline and unavailable for the duration of the maintenance window. This includes:

  • Certain CSU websites running on server equipment being upgraded, including the CSU homepage (, the CSU search/online directory, Today @ Colorado State, the CSU Events Calendar, and many others linked directly from the CSU homepage.
  • Banner Document Management System (BDMS)
  • Other servers including certain domain controllers and DNS servers, although these services will be provided by backup systems
  • Certain file/print servers (departments to be impacted have already been notified)
  • ACNS-provided Blackberry services (affects synchronizing Blackberries with Exchange calendar/e-mail)

During the outage, those who browse to the CSU homepage will see a maintenance message. Other impacted sites will not have a message -- they will simply be unavailable.

The timing of the maintenance window was chosen carefully to balance the need to impact as few users as possible with the need to allow for post-window contingency time if any unexpected issues arise during the process and to accomodate the large number of ACNS staff required to perform the maintenance.
