5K honors veterans with ties to CSU

The fourth annual Veterans Day 5K, which funds a veteran scholarship at CSU, will be held Saturday, Nov. 9 on the historic Oval.

This year's Veterans Day 5K is set for Saturday, Nov. 9.This year’s race honors Chief Warrant Officer Kenneth “Ryan” White, a U.S. Army helicopter pilot killed in action in June 2011 in Afghanistan. A husband and father of three, White had served two tours of duty in Iraq before being deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

White’s parents John and Linda (a CSU employee), his brother Stephen and family, and his grandmother live in Fort Collins.

Scholarship for veterans

Proceeds from the race help fund the Veterans Scholarship fund. This scholarship is awarded to veterans who were honorably or medically discharged and are living with disabilities related to their military experience.

The race, set for 9 a.m., begins at the CSU Oval. The flat, fast course winds through the CSU campus before ending at the Oval.

Register online or on race day

Online registration closes Friday, Nov. 8; entry is $25 for runners age 14-over, with runners 13-under $15. Race-day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on the Oval. Participant packets, including commemorative T-shirt, will be available at the race.
