College presidents adopt trendier image

A generation ago, it was typical for college presidents to be stuffy and hard-to-approach chief executives. Today, many of the barriers separating a university's leader from its tuition-paying students have disappeared.

Many current students -- and their parents -- want a personal bond with the university's president.

In an effort to be more cool, presidents across the U.S. are starring in YouTube videos, serving hot dogs, starting blogs, hosting parties, and eating with the student body in dorms.
