Reclaimed tiles from campus residence halls available in CSU Bookstore

May 10, 2011

Students, staff, and alumni now can take a piece of CSU with them wherever they go. Reclaimed ceramic tiles from the 1960s have been sandblasted with the Rams Head to create beautiful mementos of CSU.

Transformed tiles

These green exterior tiles (circa 1965) were taken off the residence halls during renovation projects and stored.

Rather than throw them away, Housing & Dining Services turned to a local vendor to transform them into commemorative gifts.

The reclaimed tiles are available in three different sizes and are now available for sale in the CSU Bookstore.

Proceeds from the sale of the reclaimed tiles will be put toward an emergency fund to assist students with demonstrated financial need who live on campus.

As the residence halls on campus are renovated, the green tiles will become a reminder of our past.

Hall renovations continue

The hall renovations began last summer with Edwards and Ingersoll halls. New brick exterior, energy-efficient windows, and highly-rated insulation were added to the halls last summer, which updated the look of the halls while also lowering steam utility bills by 50 percent. The new insulation and windows not only reduce heating costs, but they also help keep the buildings cooler in the summer.

Beginning May 16, the F and G wings of Corbett Hall (the two wings facing Laurel Street) will receive the same treatment as well as gabled roofs.

Also this summer, construction on a fourth floor for Parmelee will begin with the entire building receiving the exterior update as well as extensive interior improvements.

In May 2012, a similar project is planned for Braiden Hall.
