March 9, 2010

On Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, during the Independent College Bookstore Association 2010 Retail Conference in San Antonio, Texas, ICBA's Best Practices and Top Performer awards were announced. Of the 145 independent bookstores in the United States and Canada, the Colorado State University Bookstore earned top honors.

MVP Award goes to CSU Bookstore

The MVP Award for Overall Outstanding Performance was awarded to the CSU Bookstore, demonstrating exemplary leadership within the college bookstore industry and by establishing and executing successful business strategies during 2004 to 2009.

The award acknowledges management success in the areas of:

  • school, art and office supplies
  • textbooks
  • operations expenses

This is the third time that the CSU Bookstore has been recognized by the Independent College Bookstore Assocation, or ICBA, for successful management and leadership.

Criteria for selection

CSU Bookstore leadership and other 2010 Independent College Bookstore Association top performers were recognized at a conference in San Antonio on Feb. 19.

Awards are selected by a committee of industry peers and determined using the following criteria:

  • Participated in the ICBA Operating Survey for at least the past five consecutive years.
  • Achieved top performances or best practices demonstrating successful execution of business strategies from 2004 to 2009.
  • Review of the 2008-2009 results (not pre-determined) with an emphasis on more challenging areas of the college store business.
  •  Performances influenced by internal leadership, strategy development and execution.

Revenues returned to campus

The CSU Bookstore is located in the Lory Student Center and is operated by the University. All revenues from the Bookstore are returned to the University for student programming.
