Club Italiano hosts film festival

April 10, 2009

An Italian film festival sponsored by a grant from the National Italian American Foundation and hosted by the CSU Club Italiano will take place at the Lyric Cinema Cafe. The films run the gamut from literary-historical perspectives to romance and drama.

Italian Film Festival
Monday, April 13 - Friday, May 1
Lyric Cinema Cafe
300 East Mountain Avenue

Foreign films in 'funky' surroundings

Ask the owners of the Lyric Cinema Cafe what words they'd use to describe their theatre and they're likely to say, "Quaint... funky... maze-like... unique!"

What's on the menu at the Lyric are smaller movies that don't make it to the multiplexes, as well as independent and foreign films. That makes the Lyric a good venue for the CSU Club Italiano's upcoming Italian Film Festival, which starts this coming Monday, April 13.

The Lyric Cafe serves beer, wine, coffee, tea, bubble tea, finger foods, empanadas and cheesecake from local baker, Puffin Pastries. They also offer an assortment of games to enjoy while you aren’t enjoying a movie.

About the sponsor and films

This event is sponsored by a grant from the National Italian American Foundation. The first two movies are from Neorealismo, a literary-historical period around the end of the second world war. The third is a romantic film about a period in which Pablo Neruda was in exile in southern Italy, and the last one is a more recent film about Italian mafia (camorra) in Naples.
