Celebration of International House expansion

August 20, 2010

New international students are invited to a reception that will take place in the newly completed addition to the International House at 1400 West Elizabeth. After the reception, a barbecue will be held in connection with the Friday Afternoon Club.

International student welcome

An addition to the International House at Colorado State University, completed in July, will be revealed during the International Student Welcome on Friday, Aug. 20.

The nearly 200 new international students enrolled at Colorado State University this fall are being welcomed to campus through an invite-only reception being held in the new addition to the International House.

Spacious multipurpose room

The International House expansion, which consists of a large, multipurpose room where students can study, host events and play pool, table tennis, and foosball, was added to the Northwest side of the International House lobby.

This was the first major renovation to International House, which opened in 1994 and has 118 apartments, primarily for graduate students.

Closing event for orientation

The International Student Welcome is the closing event for the International Student Orientation, a comprehensive program that begins on Aug. 19 and is designed to help new international students prepare for their academic experience at Colorado State and settle into the Fort Collins community.

Friday Afternoon Club barbecue

The reception will be followed by the Friday Afternoon Club barbecue, an event that is co-hosted by Apartment Life, Office of International Programs, and the Fort Collins International Center. The Friday Afternoon Club is held each Friday at International House and brings community members together with students from the United States and around the world to build community.

Project made a reality through funds from private donor

A private donor made a substantial pledge of funds for the expansion project and Housing & Dining Services funded the remainder of the project. Additional donations are being sought to help furnish and enhance the new space. Future plans include a video projection system.

Housing & Dining Services is an auxiliary operation at Colorado State and does not receive any tuition, tax, or state funding dollars. The expansion project was funded through private donations and the fiscal year 2010 Housing & Dining Services operating budget, including rent dollars from residents of International House, who will use the new space on a daily basis.

About the International House

International House is one of four apartment communities at Colorado State. More than 60 percent of the nearly 1,100 student, faculty, and staff residents are international and many bring their families with them to live in the apartment communities.
