M.I.T student blogs interactive, creative

Dozens of colleges, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, are embracing student blogs on their websites, seeing them as a powerful marketing tool, especially for prosepective students.

M.I.T.’s student bloggers are paid $10 an hour for up to four hours a week, to offer thoughts on anything that might interest a prospective student. M.I.T. bloggers are chosen through a contest, in which applicants submit samples of their writing. This year, 25 freshmen applied for four new spots.

Other colleges have considered having student bloggers, but to date, have felt that the risks outweigh the benefits.
