Community Welcome Aug. 26

August 12, 2009

A variation on the welcome wagon of days-gone-by, Colorado State University's Community Welcome is a cordial "hello and welcome" to students settling into the community. The event also gives students the opportunity to learn about their rights and responsibilities while living off-campus.

Wednesday, Aug. 26, 5-8 p.m.

Colorado State University and the City of Fort Collins are teaming up for the annual Community Welcome event.

On Wednesday, Aug. 26 between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., Fort Collins and CSU Police officers, CSU faculty and staff, city staff, CSU students, and long-term residents will visit neighborhoods and residents close to campus.

"Howdy neighbor!"

The purpose of Community Welcome is to welcome CSU students to our community and provide them with handouts about their rights and responsibilities off-campus, including respecting city codes and ordinances.

"Fort Collins is known for its friendliness and small town warmth," say Community Welcome organizers. "Take pride in where you live. Get to know your neighbors and the city ordinances."

Promoting positive relationships

Over 2,000 homes close to campus will receive a unique deck of cards that include messages like:

  • Take the initiative and get to know your neighbors
  • You have a right to party; others have a right to sleep

Each team stresses the importance for forming positive relationships with those living in close proximity.
