Driving safety tips

  • Slow down for conditions.
  • Increase following distance to 8-10 seconds.
  • Watch for icy overpasses, bridges, and shady spots.
  • In a skid, ease off the accelerator; carefully steer in the direction you want the vehicle to go, then straighten the wheel when the vehicle begins to go in the desired direction.

Winter car care tips

Here's some tried and true tips for maintaining your vehicle during the winter months:

1. AAA of Colorado advises that during the winter, it is important to replace weak car batteries. Check the purchase date on your battery to determine if it is nearing its life expectancy.

2. Cold temperatures cause tire pressure to decrease. Check for proper inflation and condition.

3. Avoid driving while fatigued and remember that even over-the-counter prescriptions affect driving.
