University to host three candidates for Provost/Executive VP position Jan. 21-Feb. 2

The committee leading the search for provost/executive vice president at Colorado State University will bring three finalists to meet with the campus community Jan. 21 through Feb. 2.

The search for the position began last fall when Tony Frank was named president. Rick Miranda, dean of Natural Sciences, has been serving as interim provost/executive vice president.

“The search committee has recommended three excellent candidates for this key administrative position. The person who fills this job will serve as our chief academic and administrative officer and take CSU to the next level,” said Blanche Hughes, vice president for Student Affairs who chairs the search committee.

Open forum with each finalist

Candidates will meet with faculty, campus administrators as well as ASCSU student leadership during their visits. All members of the campus community are welcome to attend an open forum scheduled with each finalist on the dates below.

Each forum will be 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. in the Cherokee Ballroom (note change in location) in the Lory Student Center.

Finalists in order of their appearance on campus

Jan. 21: Robert Sternberg, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and professor of psychology/education at Tufts University.

Jan. 28: Valerie Gray Hardcastle, dean and philosophy/psychology professor, McMicken College of Arts and Science at the University of Cincinnati.

Feb. 1: Rick Miranda, interim provost/executive vice president and mathematics professor, Colorado State University.

More about the finalists

Robert Sternberg

Sternberg also serves as honorary professor at the University of Heidelberg in Germany and senior scholar in the Center for Public Leadership at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Prior to joining Tufts, Sternberg worked at Yale University, most recently as IBM Professor of Psychology and Education and Professor of Management.

Valerie Gray Hardcastle

Hardcastle served as associate dean at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Virginia Tech before joining the University of Cincinnati. At Virginia Tech, she also held positions as the head of the Department of Science and Technology in Society, chair of the Center for Science and Technology Studies and director of the Graduate Program in Science and Technology Studies.

Rick Miranda

Miranda has served as dean of the College of Natural Sciences and chair of the Department of Mathematics at Colorado State University. He has worked as a professor at Colorado State University since 1981. In the past five years, he has chaired two university strategic planning committees as well as co-chaired the committee that aligned the university’s budget and planning processes.
