Term-paper mills under scrutiny in class-action lawsuit

A class-action lawsuit is working its way through a U.S. District Court in Illinois that could provide a road map for those who find their work online without their authorization. The judge has found an online provider liable on six counts, including copyright infringement, unfair competition and other fraud-related claims.

Chad Weidner and Karolien Walravens, who filed the lawsuit, are asking the court to shut down the company, R2C2 Inc., which operates at least nine websites that sell term papers and that put their manuscript online without permission.
