Oxfam Hunger Banquet Oct. 14

October 12, 2010

At CSU's Oxfam Hunger Banquet, step into a world where food is often scarce and difficult decisions have to be made every day.

Thursday, Oct. 14
6 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.)
Parmelee Dining Hall

Banquet addresses inequalities

In conjunction with U.N. World Food Day (Oct. 16) and Cans Around the Oval (Oct. 20), Colorado State University is sponsoring an Oxfam Hunger Banquet to raise awareness of the crisis of global hunger and poverty.

Please join us for the 6th Annual CSU Hunger Banquet on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. in Parmelee Dining Hall.

We'll explore the causes of world hunger and learn how to make a difference in the fight against poverty through experiencing an interactive meal that powerfully depicts global economic stratification.

How it works

Here's how it works — guests draw tickets at random that assign them each to either a high, middle, or low-income tier, based on the latest statistics about the number of people living in poverty. Each income level receives a corresponding meal:

  • Fifteen percent in the high-income tier are served a sumptuous meal
  • Thirty-five percent in the middle-income section eat a simple meal of rice and beans
  • Fifty percent in the low-income tier help themselves to small portions of rice and water

Oxfam is an international development relief agency committed to finding lasting solutions to poverty, hunger and social injustice. Tens of thousands of students, families, and campus and community groups across the U.S. have joined Oxfam's movement to alleviate poverty and hunger.

Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to attend.

We'll have tickets available at the door.  There will be plenty of room for walk-ins.

  • $6 dollars Ramcash, or a meal swipe
  • Limit two tickets per person

All proceeds go to Oxfam America. For more information, please contact Shauna DeLuca at (970) 491-5917, or
