Lory Student Center Plaza

James Bryant, the student coordinator for the 2012 CANStruction (the kickoff to Cans Around the Oval), says the only guideline for creating sculptures out of canned foods this year is to include something in the design that alludes to the Lory Student Center's 50th Anniversary Celebration.

"Other than that, it's up to people's creativity," Bryant says. "You can do your own thing. Once the sculptures are completed, we'll have a few judges on hand, and we'll also ask the audience to vote on their favorite sculpture."

Carnival games and more

"There are other events going on during CANStruction," Tina De Giso, graduate marketing coordinator with SLiCE, says.

"We'll have carnival games and the Stick to a Cause event, in which you can pay $1 to duct tape our ASCSU president Regina Martel, and the director of the Lory Student Center, Mike Ellis, to a wall.

"Music will be provided by KSCSU and there will be edible art."

Last year's winner

Last year students from the College of Business won the competition with a sculpture of an apple that was a tribute to Steve Jobs, the Apple creator and innovator.

In past years teams created sculptures of a fish, a bike, spellings of their organization's name, logo, or Greek letters. There has even been a sculpture depicting the CSU Oval!
